There needs to be a prepaid account system added for customers.
My business is a coffee shop & I see many of the same faces (regulars) on a daily basis. These regulars sometimes don't have cash and don't like doing daily transactions on their credit/debit cards. To minimize transactions on their statements & speed up the flow of our line we have created a prepaid account system.
A regular can come in an add any denomination to their account and we can deduct from that until they have to make another deposit. Most of the time money is only exchanged on a weekly or monthly basis with these individuals.
This helps the flow of our line by keeping it moving so they don't have to get out their wallets everyday and if they forget their wallet its no big deal because they have an account.
It would be great if when taking money from a customer if the POS recorded the individuals name, amount added, date added, the cashier that added it, their transaction history with the option to print it out (or export it out) in the event there are concerns over money and the option to go to a notes section on the customer.
In the notes section things could be stored such as the customer's email address, home address, telephone numbers, people who can use their account like wife or children and if they are allergic to something like milk or nuts.

I suggest to use an open ticket for that purpose. You can add a virtual user to open open tickets only. The tickets won t dissapear until they are paid.

Honestly for this to work for both you and many others there almost needs to be a customer system added. Something where you can track sales of regulars AND offer discounts and specific pricing. This would be a very large change, and require a good amount of code work and testing.
